Today in Kansas City, more than 6,000 men, women, and children in Kansas City affected by HIV/AIDS; over 100 of those are youth ages 13- 24. Kansas City surpasses national trends for its rate of suppressing viral loads – 74% locally v. 35% nationally.
For 36 years now, Kansas Citians have come together each spring to walk to raise awareness about HIV, celebrate the great strides made in treatment and care, offer support to those living with this disease, and remember the many family and friends we have lost.
ASFGKC raises money and awareness through AIDS WALK Kansas City and the World AIDS Day observances for organizations that provide shelter, medical care, and emergency services for those affected by HIV/AIDS in our community.
Contributions equally benefit three organizations; KC Care Health Center, SAVE Inc., and Hope Care Center. Additionally, funds are distributed to the ASF Community Fund. This Fund awards grants to not-for-profit organizations that serve the diverse communities’ specialized needs dealing with HIV/AIDS, provide support to their families and friends, and/or promote education and prevention.
All funds raised by AIDS WALK Kansas City and the World AIDS Day observances stay in Kansas City.

For more than 35 years, hundreds of thousands of Kansas Citians have gathered to walk, remember, donate, and support each other raising millions to combat HIV and AIDS. The funds raised at this event remain a vital lifeline for sustaining the prevention, care, and advocacy for individuals and families affected by the disease on both sides of the state line. Proceeds from the walk also benefit several HIV/AIDS service organizations and supply funds for our community grants.
AIDS Walk KC is the organization’s largest fundraiser each year, rain. There’s no shortage of teamwork, commodore, pride, laughter, and even a few tears. Show your support by becoming a team captain, walking with a team, creating an independent fundraising page, or by becoming a sponsor. Rain or shine, the walk must go on, and it does. Every dollar you donate makes a difference to someone in Kansas City!
