World AIDS Day

In 1988, the World Health Organization and U.N. General Assembly first declared December 1st "World AIDS Day". 2010 marks the 22nd anniversary of the annual event dedicated to remembering those we've lost to the virus and to recommitting with vigor to the fight against AIDS. Every year on World AIDS Day,, campaigners from all over the world come together to bring attention to the global AIDS epidemic. We hope that you will continue to campaign to stop AIDS not just on World AIDS Day, but throughout the year.

The United Nations has proclaimed the theme of "Universal Access and Human Rights" as the campaign slogan of World AIDS Day 2010, reminding us that HIV/AIDS is not only an issue of health but an issue of human rights as well. Access for all people to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support is a critical part of human rights. Since 1993, the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City has provided this access with action and vision locally in providing those affected by HIV/AIDS as well as spreading the message of prevention.

The 2010 World AIDS Day Week of Observance will kick off with a Community Luncheon on Wednesday, December 1st, to be held at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Then later that evening, the World AIDS Day Reception will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
